My connection with Barwell and Earl Shilton is through my maternal grandparents, Len and Lydia Harvey (now deceased) who lived at 'Mansfield House' on Shilton Road, Barwell.

My great grandfather, William Harvey, founded Harvey and Harvey, a boot and shoe manufacturing business in (I think) Arthur St., Barwell which at its height in the 1950's and '60's employed somewhere between 50 and 100 locals. The business was handed down from father to son until finally being sold in (I think) the late '70's.

Grandpa Len founded Harvey House retirement home in High St., Barwell. As far as I know a portrait of him drawn by myself still hangs above the reception desk.
