Judy lives in Adelaide, South Australia. Here's a little bit about her
interests....
I am interested in all members of the DALTON family (who lived and died
in Barwell from the 1790s to about the 1870s) and their forebears.
John DALTON, 1830-1916, born in Barwell, is my children's paternal great-great-grandfather.
The family can be traced back to the early 1600s in Church Lawford, Warwickshire.
A William DALTON (1758-1835), from Church Lawford, was apprenticed to
a baker, Mr KING, in Hinckley; William married Mr KING's daughter Mary
in 1782 and they moved to Earl Shilton. Later they moved to Manor House
Farm, Barwell.
Their fourth child (of eight), George DALTON (1795-1868), was the first
born at Manor House Farm; he married Susannah PIERCY (1797-1867), daughter
of Hinckley ironmonger Joseph PIERCY, in 1820.
George and Susannah had nine children - four, including my children's
gggfather John, migrated to Australia in the early 1850s (though one of
the brothers, George jnr, subsequently returned to England).
The DALTONs were pillars of the Methodist church in Barwell. Some other
members of the DALTON family also lived in Barwell, including a brother
of George snr, Daniel DALTON (1801-1872) - in the 1851 census,
Daniel is listed with his family at Red Hall, Barwell.
